Medicinal poinsettia: During the middle ages people used the poinsettia flower as a purgative to aid in the elimination of black bile and melancholy.
Old and Modern Roses:Roses which existed prior to 1867 are known as Old Roses. Roses developed from 1867 to present are usually referred to as Modern Roses. Named for fighters: Gladiolus flowers got their name because the leaves of the plant were shaped like a sword and made them think of the Roman gladiators.
