Noble flowers: The four noble plants of the ancient Chinese were the Chrysanthemum, the Orchid, the bamboo, and the plum, and therefore only the upper class Chinese were permitted to grow them in their gardens.
Old and Modern Roses:Roses which existed prior to 1867 are known as Old Roses. Roses developed from 1867 to present are usually referred to as Modern Roses. Symbolic meanings: Many flowers have important symbolic meanings in Western culture. The practice of assigning meanings to flowers is known as floriography.
