Noble flowers: The four noble plants of the ancient Chinese were the Chrysanthemum, the Orchid, the bamboo, and the plum, and therefore only the upper class Chinese were permitted to grow them in their gardens.
Planting roses:To plant roses which have been obtained from a nursery first water the rose, and then remove it from the pot. If the rose is in a paper pot cut off the bottom and remove the sidewalls so that the fine, new white feeder roots of the growing plant might be preserved. Symbol of procreation: The lily is regarded as a fertility symbol in both the Christian and pagan traditions.
