Making spirits happy: To please the spirits of the dead many rich Romans grew huge rose gardens to provide petals for their grave sites.
Friends in the rose garden:Roses like to have other companion plants such as garlic, onions, marigolds, mignonettes, and thyme in the garden with them. Flowers become fruits: For the higher plants, seeds are the next generation, and serve as the primary means by which individuals of a species are dispersed across the landscape. After fertilization, a flower develops into a fruit containing the seed(s).
