Old and Modern Roses: Roses which existed prior to 1867 are known as Old Roses. Roses developed from 1867 to present are usually referred to as Modern Roses.
Symbolic meanings:Many flowers have important symbolic meanings in Western culture. The practice of assigning meanings to flowers is known as floriography. Flower looks like animal: Because the Strelitzia flower looks much like the head and beak of an exotic bird they are nicknamed The Bird of Paradise.
