Roses in France:The French, especially the town of Rouen, embraced the cultivation of roses after the King of Navarre brought his wife rose bushes when he returned from The Seventh Crusade. Named for fighters: Gladiolus flowers got their name because the leaves of the plant were shaped like a sword and made them think of the Roman gladiators.
